Book Review: June

16Title: June

Author: Miranda Beverly-Whittemore

Release Date: May 31, 2016

Pages: 400

My Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis:
A young woman is lamenting the death of her grandmother. A movie star leaves her his inheritance. She must figure out the connection between the two, while also dealing with all the repercussions of these 2 events. The story also flips back and forth to the grandmother’s story, as a young woman 60 years prior, and we see how those unfolding events affect the future.

My Thoughts:
I wasn’t sure I would like this, especially by looking at the cover (I am a total cover judger!). But I had heard a couple people have decent-to-good reviews, and went ahead and requested it. Even upon beginning the read, until about midway through, I didn’t think it’d be for me. Because of that, and also some busyness that comes with family visiting and the start of a new school year, it took me a while to want to read it, and get through the first half. But the second half got quite interesting, hooked me in, and I finished in just a couple days (still, with limited reading time). I really liked the back and forth, time jumping, plot lines. I didn’t see the point at first, but they came together nicely, by the end. I didn’t really care much for the specific characters…nothing really wrong with them, but they were slightly…not annoying, but…I just wasn’t connecting with them, I guess. But I liked the timeline eras, and the plot line. I liked the mystery and the way the result was revealed. I feel like I can’t really give much detail…

#ReadThemAllThon (ie. Pokemon Readathon) TBR

So…I don’t really know much about Pokemon. Like, at all. But I do like to play Pokemon GO, which is why this readathon peeked my interest! And it sounds fun with all the points, so I might as well try it out.

readthemallthon.jpg

So, this readathon is hosted by Read at Midnight, and starts Monday, August 14th, and runs for 3 weeks…and since Bout of Books 17 *also* is in the middle of it (and we do not have a challenge list for that yet)…this TBR is tentative, for right now. I am attempting to double up all my requirements, making books do double (and possibly triple?!) duty. I have 2 books I have to read this month, and I got them both to work for this readathon. If I can, I will try and get them to work for BoB as well, if I don’t read them before that…which I am going to try to do.

ANYWAYS. Let’s get to the TBR.

Bout of Books 17 Announcement & TBR

I haven’t really heard of anyone talking about this readathon yet, for this year, but I’ve been looking forward to it! I was hoping to get some good reading done during this week, but now we are actually going on holiday, so I may still get to get some read on the long drive there and back, so will see how I do!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I am now realizing that, during this readathon, for a majority of the week, we will be on vacation. So I am not going to be doing a daunting a TBR, as I don’t know how much reading I will get done. As of now, I’m only going to TBR 2 books….and that’s for *just in case* I get one completed, but I don’t think I’ll even get to more than 1 book.

I’m also really only picking books from my #ReadThemAllThon TBR, so that my books can do double duty and count for both readathons. I also probably will not be able to do much on the challenge front, for this readathon. Will have to see what the challenges all entail, and how much time in the evenings we will have available, but I am not going to stress over those this time. Kind of sucks, as these challenges are usually my favorite of all readathons!
